INSTITUTIONS AND  POLICY PRIORITIES  FOR ECOLOGICAL ORGANIC  AGRICULTURE IN AFRICA

OBJECTIVE

To facilitate and link policy makers to various organic agriculture (OA) experts, farmers and stakeholders as a process of building their capacity and understanding of the importance of OA in Africa.

KEY PARTICIPANTS

The Conference will draw participants from across the continent and beyond. Policymakers, who influence decisions at different levels, Continental and Regional Economic Communities, government representatives, Representatives from International Organizations, UN Organizations, farmers’ organizations, Organic Agriculture experts, researchers and stakeholders and farmers, all form key participants to this forum.

How do we achieve Mainstreaming of EOA into Programs, Policies and Strategies?

MODERATION

Moderation will include presentations and panel discussion. The kick start will be cases presentations from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda on their respective Policy Environment they operate in. IFOAM could complement with Policy Best Practices collected through OTEA Component C Policy. Where, AUC could present on Implementation of the African Head of States decision on Organic Farming in Africa. All these presentations would, eventually, trigger discussion from the floor.

PROCESS TO COME UP WITH PRIORITIES

All presentations and contributions from the participants should center on drawing successes, challenges, lessons learned and recommendations and actions needed for ways forward. The recommendations should, also, be presented at the end of the Conference, so that institutions, such as AfrONet, NOAMs, Research Institutes and other OA stakeholders, can eventually make follow-up of implementations.

THE 3RD AOC NIGERIA

Is organized to untie the theme, “Achieving Social and Economic Development Through Ecological and Organic Agricultural Alternatives,” the Conference, which is co-coordinated by the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria (NOAN), African Organic Network (AfrONet) and The Federal Fertilizer Department, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Federal Republic of Nigeria, will take place at Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Lagos.

The conference targets consumers, farmers, researchers, trainers, academics, extension practitioners, policy makers, private sector actors, financiers in the agriculture value chains and promoters of organic agriculture. It is organized in the context of mainstreaming organic agriculture as per decision of African Heads of State and Government. It is estimated that more than 300 delegates from at least 35 countries will attend.
